OPINION

Arthur Masuaku is a not a name that West Ham United fans have been particuarly fond of this season, and for good reason.

It is difficult to count even on one hand the number of times the 25-year-old has impressed this season, and that is particularly concerning for manager Manuel Pellegrini.

Soon enough, his patience will start to wear very thin indeed. There is only so long that he will be able to put up with the failings of the £40,000-a-week [Spotrac] player, and by the end of the campaign, it is very likely that it will run out.

Pellegrini must bin the left-back for good in the summer, as he cannot continue to struggle in a West Ham shirt. The fans are no doubt growing tired of someone who cannot remain consistent, so it is not like that they would be too fussed about the prospect of him leaving.

Besides, the manager can use the cash raised from his possible sale to find the club a much more reliable defender. There is no point in showing signs of promise if you cannot endeavour to follow it up.

It is hard to imagine that there are any fans who are admirers of the 2016 signing. He has hardly lit the club alight since he arrived in East London, and to be honest, he is not showing any signs of improving any time soon.

West Ham should just cut their losses while they can in the summer and offload him permanently. After all, there must be better left-backs out there than Masuaku at the moment.

Pellegrini must have been afraid to let him go before as he was the only cover available to Aaron Cresswell, who has been streets ahead of the Congo international recently.

Either way, it is crystal clear that Pellegrini needs to bin Masuaku for good in the summer, as his time is well and truly up.
