Everton defender Lucas Digne is set to be available to manager Marco Silva for the club’s clash against West Ham this coming weekend.

The left back had missed out for France over the international break leading to fears over his fitness for the return to league action after the two week hiatus.

However, as revealed on the Twitter account of journalist Paul Joyce, Silva told the media that the French international should be ready to play against the Hammers on their trip to east London.

Digne has been a mainstay for the Toffees with 30 appearances this season, 28 of those coming in the Premier League, but was on the losing side when the Toffees and Irons played each other in the reverse fixture.

Opinion

Digne is one of the most important players at Goodison Park and while the Toffees would have been worrying about his potential absence, West Ham would have been hoping whatever was ailing him on international duty would keep him out on their return to domestic action. Everton are definitely a weaker team without him in it and it will now be up to the Irons to keep him quiet – something that they may well focus on in training between Silva’s revelation and kick off at the London Stadium. Of course, he was pretty ineffective when the two sides met earlier in the season and maybe all Manuel Pellegrini needs to do is remind his side of how they managed to get the better of him then. Either way, it is certainly a boost to Everton and an increased challenge for West Ham to come up against. Time will tell who comes out on top.
