West Ham United attacker Marko Arnautovic suffered a minor knee injury in his team’s desperate 2-0 defeat to Everton on Saturday, according to Claret & Hugh.

The reliable Hammers news source claims that the Austrian international was substituted, in part, due to the knock he had taken, for which he immediately received an ice pack.

The 29-year-old was seen to be in a fury in the sidelines after coming off, throwing his water bottle down and actually hitting a fan’s seat with it.

OPINION

What a disappointing afternoon this proved to be for West Ham and Arnautovic in particular. The former Stoke City man was given another chance up front by Pellegrini but he failed to produce anything of note in a woeful display. It’s no wonder that he was substituted and, given how he played, you’d have to think that his being withdrawn had more to do with his no-show on the pitch than his minor knee injury. Obviously the knock played a part and he’ll be disappointed to have had another setback, but it kind of worked as a get out of jail free card on Saturday. It simply wasn’t happening for the Hammers attacker and so it was best for everyone that he was withdrawn. He saves a bit of his dignity with the injury issue making it seem as if that – and not his poor performance – was the reason for his substitution.
