West Ham must be spurred on by a lack of competition to complete a cut price deal for Danny Drinkwater.

According to the Evening Standard, Chelsea have yet to receive any bids or loan offers for the ostracised midfielder this month, and the Hammers must take advantage of their London rivals’ eagerness to offload him to snap up a bargain.

The 28-year-old Premier League winner has played just 30 minutes of football this season, and would surely be allowed to leave the Blues if any kind of decent offer was tabled.

Drinkwater cost Chelsea around £35 million back in 2017, according to the BBC, but would presumably cost a lot less now given his recent lack of form and action.

The Irons should therefore capitalise on Maurizio Sarri’s disaffection for the midfielder and take him to the London Stadium.

With a raft of injuries in the centre of the park to contend with, and with Mark Noble approaching the twilight years if his career, a move for a new engine room operator would be a shrewd one, and Drinkwater has all the attributes to be a great signing.

A gifted passer of the ball and a diligent worker, he could be the unsung hero in the middle of the park that could propel the Hammers towards Europe.
