West Ham United are close to wrapping up a deal that would see striker Lucas Perez leave permanently for Real Betis, according to reliable journalist Kaveh Solhekol.

The journalist – who works as a reporter for Sky Sports News – revealed on his personal Twitter account that the Hammers are on the brink of agreeing a seven figure deal of £3.5million with the La Liga side that would see the 30-year-old depart just a few months after arriving.

BBC Sport previously reported that Schalke had made an offer to take the 5ft 11in [Transfermarkt] player on loan for the remainder of the season, with an option to buy in the summer.

OPINION

Wow, this is quite the turnaround in events. Schalke had already made an offer for the attacker’s services, but it now looks like Perez could be returning to his homeland of Spain if this update is anything to go by. It is odd to see him possibly leave just months after signing for the Irons, but his time at the London Stadium has certainly not been the most fruitful, has it? He is probably glad that West Ham are close to agreeing a deal that would see him leave permanently, as he is most likely fed up of not being first choice. Being first choice was never going to be the case with a player like Marko Arnautovic on the books, but that could all change if he joins Real Betis. Plus, West Ham could cash in on him if the deal goes through, so it is a win-win situation for everyone involved.
