West Ham striker Javier Hernandez has been in training this week after recovering from injury, according to reliable journalist Sam Inkersole.

The Football.London reporter claimed via his personal Twitter account that the 30-year-old is edging closer to a return to action for the first time since December 22.

The Mexican international picked up a knock during the game with Watford last month, but he has now provided Manuel Pellegrini with a major boost heading into the game against Bournemouth this weekend.

OPINION

The fact that Hernandez has returned to training will no doubt be a major boost for Pellegrini at the moment. With the current situation with Marko Arnautovic, potentially having Hernandez back and scoring goals may take the limelight off the Austrian for a bit. The manager has had to rely on the likes of Andy Carroll and Lucas Perez to provide cover up front, but fans can now breathe easy knowing that Hernandez is on his way back. He may have been linked with a move to Valencia this month, but Football London report that they do not want him leaving on a temporary basis. The last thing the Irons would need is Hernandez leaving if Arnautovic does depart, as it means they would fast be running out of options in attack. Beating Arsenal at the weekend will no doubt have given West Ham a boost of confidence, but now that Hernandez could be amongst the side, they will feel incredibly confident of winning against Bournemouth on Saturday.
