West Ham United have begun negotiations with Czech side Viktoria Plzen for central midfielder Patrik Hrosovsky, according to AS.

The Spanish publication claims that talks are underway between Manuel Pellegrini’s side and Viktoria Plzen for the 21-cap Slovakian international.

The fee to secure the player is thought to be around £4million, however, there is interest from Bundesliga giants Stuttgart as well.

Hrosovsky, who scored against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu in the Champions League group stages earlier this season, has been a regular this campaign, making 25 appearances in all competitions for his club side.

OPINION

It certainly seems as if Hammers boss Manuel Pellegrini wants to strengthen the middle of the park this January, doesn’t it? Sky Sports linked the club with Besiktas midfielder Gary Medel in December, while the Evening Standard has claimed that they have an interest in Newcastle United man Jonjo Shelvey. Clearly the Chilean has identified central midfield as an area of need for his team, and he’s right to do so. West Ham simply don’t have enough quality or depth in the middle of midfield, and so a January purchase in that area of the pitch is vital. Hrosovsky doesn’t seem like a bad candidate. He has extensive experience of European football, albeit in the Czech Republic, and is at a good age at 26. He showed against Madrid that he can perform on the big stage, so he seems like someone who could be worth checking out. Not many of Pellegrini’s moves have failed so far, so we’ll have to trust that this would be another smart purchase.
