Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp believes that West Ham United will end up kicking themselves for deciding to sell Domingos Quina to Watford in the summer.

The pundit said how he has heard good things about the young ace, particularly when he was progressing through the academy ranks at both Chelsea and the Hammers.

The 19-year-old bagged a goal in only his second Premier League start for the Hornets on Saturday against Cardiff, and Redknapp has begun to question whether West Ham jumped the gun when they sold Quina too soon.

“I heard good things about Domingos Quina when he was rising through the academies at Chelsea and then West Ham,” he said in his Daily Mail column.

“After his brilliant strike for Watford against Cardiff, some have questioned whether West Ham will regret letting him go to Vicarage Road.

“That may prove to be the case but the problem clubs are finding is that their young stars are not afraid to move in pursuit of regular football. Jadon Sancho has blazed a trail for teenagers playing in this country.”

OPINION

Redknapp is right – West Ham will no doubt end up regret selling Quina in the summer based on his recent performances for Watford. The Irons may have jumped the gun too soon when selling him, but what is their loss is their rivals’ gain. Yes, the Hammers signed a number of midfielders in the summer and they may not have had room for Quina on the books, but that will not stop them looking back on the vital mistake they made. Watford obviously spotted something in the youngster that West Ham did not at the time, and they are now making the most of it. The signs look good for Quina this season, and he is only going to get better and better as the season progresses. He looks like a real talent and it is a real shame that the West Ham fans did not get to see more of him. Hopefully the club have learnt from this mistake and will avoid prospects like Quina leaving in the future.
