BBC Sport pundit Mark Lawrenson has admitted he doesn’t know what to think about West Ham United at this moment in time.

The Hammers were victorious 2-1 against Southampton on Thursday, but despite that Lawrenson sees them falling to a 2-0 defeat at lowly Burnley on Sunday.

“West Ham have got a lot of injuries to contend with, and it is hard to know what to expect from them at the moment,” he wrote on the BBC Sport website. “Burnley need to show something here – some fight, at least.

“One of their problems is that, whoever plays up front, their strikers are all much of a muchness. I am still going to back the Clarets to get a positive result because of what we have seen from them in the past but, at the moment, things do not look good.”

OPINION

It’s true that the Hammers have a lot of injuries to deal with at the moment, but you’d still fancy them to come out on top at Turf Moor on Sunday. Manager Manuel Pellegrini made several changes for the game against the Saints on Thursday but his team were still the better side and came away victorious. It’s hard to see a team as out of form as Burnley beating West Ham at this moment in time. The big enemy for Pellegrini’s side is complacency, because of how poorly the Clarets have been playing. In one way Lawrenson predicting a home win might help keep the Hammers players locked in – if any of them read Lawro’s column that is. There are plenty of key players missing for West Ham, but with the quality of Felipe Anderson in their ranks they should still come out on top in what likely won’t be a classic encounter at Turf Moor.
