West Ham United left back Aaron Cresswell believes that his Hammers team mate Felipe Anderson can replicate the success that Dimitri Payet had at the club.

The Frenchman was a big hit in East London after joining from Marseille, and Cresswell has seen enough to indicate that Anderson can match his impact.

“Every time I have played with him, going forward he’s outstanding,” he told the Daily Mirror. “You look at the amount of games he has changed for us and the amount of goals he has scored, his assists, the created chances, he has been fantastic and long may that continue.

“I can see him becoming a fans’ favourite like Dimitri. He’s a similar type of player, coming off the left, creating things and scoring goals. He is our top scorer now, he has been fantastic for us.”

OPINION

There’s no arguing that Anderson has the talent to become a hero to the West Ham fans like Payet was. It’s difficult to claim with any certainty that he will reach the Frenchman’s god-like status at the London Stadium because Payet was simply unbelievable in claret and blue. He had one of the finest seasons from a player outside the established big six that we have ever seen. He was unbelievable in that 2015-16 campaign and it’s unlikely that any West Ham player will reach his level of brilliance. Anderson has been excellent since joining from Lazio this summer but he’s not been anywhere near Payet’s level yet. Perhaps he will get to that point but you can’t sit here and say he’s there just yet. He has scored important goals and secured vital victories for Manuel Pellegrini’s side, but there’s a long way to go until he reaches Payet status.
