COMMENTARY
Lucas Perez took to the pitch in the 68th minute of Saturday’s defeat against Manchester City for West Ham and it didn’t take long for him to have fans pulling their hair out. The summer recruit wasn’t playing in his best position against Man City but it’s clear he could have done more to prove himself upon entering the game. The scoreline was 3-0 in favour of Man City when Perez appeared to try to help the Hammers’ cause but he did nothing of note and it’s no surprise that Pep Guardiola’s team ended up increasing their lead to 4-0 before the final whistle. One fan somewhat harshly claimed that Perez would be lucky to get a game for the Hammers’ U23’s side if Manuel Pellegrini had a fully fit squad, but it’s easy to see why that supporter went in hard on Perez. The player’s body language and attitude appeared to be all wrong against Man City and he just seemed resigned to being a member of the losing team.
