Some fans on Twitter opted to heavily criticised West Ham attacker Jordan Hugill for his display for Middlesbrough during their EFL Cup clash with Crystal Palace on Wednesday.

The 26-year-old Hammers forward is currently on loan with the Championship outfit for the season and played 55 minutes of his side’s 1-0 win over Roy Hodgson’s side at the Riverside Stadium.

However despite Middlesbrough achieving a notable victory over a Premier League side, a section of Twitter opted to destroy Hugill for his part in Tony Pulis’ team’s latest win.

One fan tweeted to reveal they refused to believe the player was a real footballer, while another seem bewildered that the club paid Hugill real money to play football.

COMMENTARY

The Hammers must regret signing Hugill in January as it is continuing to look like mistake. After making only three brief appearances for the London club last season, the forward was shipped out on loan to Boro in the summer. However it seems returning to the Championship, where he was previously amongst the goals, hasn’t got his career back on track as of yet. While it still early days in his loan spell, given that the forward saw a lot of the ball on Wednesday but just couldn’t finish his chances, it doesn’t paint the best picture for the future. The best case for the Hammers as far as Hugill is concerned, is that he finds some sort of form so that a club comes to purchase him once his loan spell at the Riverside Stadium ends. As it stands you don’t imagine Boro, particularly some of their fans below, would like to hold onto him beyond the current arrangement and that doesn’t spell great news for Hugill or the Hammers.
