Scotland manager Alex McLeish shared that West Ham attacker Robert Snodgrass was currently managing an ankle knock which was causing him to be unavailable for international duty.

The international boss lifted the lift on the Hammers winger’s injury concern when explaining why he wasn’t named in the Scotland squad for the Nations League games against Albania and Israel.

Snodgrass withdrew from Scotland’s squad for the clash with Israel and Portugal in October but has featured in every one of the Hammers’ Premier League matches this season.

“He’s (Snodgrass) managing a kind of ankle knock that is on-going,” said McLeish, as quoted by the Herald Scotland.

“It made him miss the last games too.

“He went back, so, again, it’s just something that was out of our control.”

OPINION

Snodgrass has completed 90 minutes in all of the Hammers’ last three league games and didn’t show signs that he was battling an injury. The 31-year-old winger has been a bright spark for Manuel Pellegrini this season, so it would be a concern if he is having to managing an ankle knock. However if that is the case then he is hiding his problem very well as he has been flying into tackles as of late. This was especially the case in the recent clashes with Tottenham, in the league and the EFL Cup, as he didn’t shy away from making a challenge. If his ankle knock was really something that was causing him bother, then you would think this wouldn’t be the case. McLeish did previously reveal that Snodgrass, as quoted by Football.London, wanted to put his international future on hold to focus on the Hammers, but then since sharing that, the Hammers winger has been in the manager’s squad. So Snodgrass and his Scotland future just seems like a whole bizarre scenario at the moment, but it seems as far as McLeish is aware the player is carrying an injury.
