A section of West Ham United fans have taken to Twitter to heap praise on the performance of Aaron Cresswell in the 4-2 win over Burnley on Saturday.
The 28-year-old started in the place of Arthur Masuaku at left-back for this clash at the London Stadium, with goals coming from Felipe Anderson, Marko Arnautovic and Javier Hernandez to ensure all three points.
Many Hammers supporters were delighted with how the 5ft 7in [Transfermarkt] defender played, with some comments including “silenced his critics” and “took his chance today”.
COMMENTARY
Aaron Cresswell has never been the most highly praised of all the West Ham players, but it seems like some of the fans have taken him into their hearts after his performance on Saturday. He was a doubt heading into this game, but overall, he took the place of Masuaku admirably well considering that he has not started much this season. Like one fan pointed out, he “silenced his critics” – and it is hard not to agree with that. His display was not incredible, but it did demonstrate why Manuel Pellegrini should pick him ahead of Masuaku. Yes, admittedly he needs to improve a bit more, but that improvement will come with more starts. Then we will see his confidence soar, and we will also see Cresswell unleash his potential. Another fan said how Cresswell is now earning his place in the team, and he is not far wrong – Masuaku has not been at his best recently, and he most definitely needs to be replaced.

Cresswell played rather well today, seems to make Anderson play better as he knows where he’s going to be.
Zabaleta, proper professional, great captain.
Not sure whose fault both goals were, but regardless Diop played another good game.

Cresswell at LB once again proving he's miles ahead of Masuaku. So, so much better defensively and doesn't mess about with pointless step overs in an attempt to make it onto Soccer AM.

Absolutely quality performance from West Ham today. Moved the ball about brilliantly, poor to concede two but @F_Andersoon was fantastic today, that is what you want for £42m. Burnley were very awful but defence yet again were superb, Cresswell earning his place in the team #COYI

Thought we dominated the game but twice we were complacent! Anderson looked better and Cresswell was more reliable than Masuaku ! Happy day!⚒⚒⚒
