Free agent Samir Nasri has agreed to train with West Ham in the lead up to the January window in the hope of securing a contract with the club, according to BBC Sport.

The broadcaster report that the 31-year-old was due to undergo a medical at the London Stadium but will now be assessed by the club in training before a decision is made.

BBC Sport claim that manager Manuel Pellegrini is still keen on a reunion with the 5’10” playmaker [Transfermarkt], who played under him at Manchester City, with the Hammers missing both Manuel Lanzini and Andriy Yarmolenko in attack.

OPINION

Nasri was obviously not given a choice in the matter after concerns about his fitness were raised, and he now has his work cut out to regain his fitness in time for the end of his ban in January. For the club to be so worried about his fitness means that the France international really must have let himself go during his 18 months away from the game, and it will be a long slog to regain fitness enough to compete in the Premier League. That being said, Nasri does have almost two months to prove himself, and if he really does want to earn this contract at the London Stadium, then that is enough time to do so. This is a move which will divide the fanbase, but if Nasri proves himself in training then there will be few complaints. His quality is undeniable and he will bring a bit of the x-factor to the London Stadium which will get fans off their seats.
