West Ham are in the hunt for Tottenham midfielder Victor Wanyama, according to Football Insider.

The reliable football website state that the Hammers have put the Spurs defensive midfielder on their shortlist as they’re look to bolster their midfield options in the January window.

Football Insider report that Manuel Pellegrini’s side are looking to advantage of the fact that Wanyama is on the fringes of Spurs’ squad having only played 56 minutes of league action this season.

OPINION

The Hammers would be very wise to find a way to snap up Wanyama in January as he’s exactly the type of midfielder they need. The 27-year-old, who earns £26,000-a-week currently (Source: Spotrac), is strong in the challenge and could regularly win the midfield battle for the Hammers if recruited due to his strength. Also given that Wanyama has played 142 times in the Premier League then he knows what level of performance is expected of him at a club like the Hammers. While it would be a smart decision to swoop for Wanyama, the only concern about a potential deal is possibly his price tag. It’s not known whether Spurs would be open to selling Wanyama to the Hammers nor is it known how much they would want, but you feel it would be in the region of £20million at least. This is because Spurs paid £11million to sign him in 2016 from Southampton (Source: BBC) and it would make sense that they would want to make significant profit on their original investment, especially if they’re going to sell him to a London rival.
