West Ham midfielder Pedro Obiang is ticking all the boxes when it comes to going above and beyond for his side following an update on his fitness.

According to Football Insider the 26-year-old is working hard to return from a calf injury as quickly as possible, potentially against Tottenham on Wednesday, as he knows that Manuel Pellegrini especially needs him with Mark Noble suspended.

The reliable football website state that Obiang is working overtime at the club’s headquarters in order to get fit enough to feature and this desire is exactly the type you want to see in players.

Given that Pellegrini clearly has a problem regarding who to select in midfield with Noble missing, as he has already lost Carlos Sanchez and Jack Wilshere to injury as it stands, then it’s admirable that Obiang is doing all he can to ease his manager’s selection headache.

The Hammers need players willing to do whatever they can for the cause and given that Obiang is a talented player on top of clearly having the right attitude then he is ticking all the boxes with this reported desire.

It also puts to bed any suggestion that he’s head is elsewhere as it was claimed in the summer by Sky Sports that he was on the brink of leaving the club to join Sampdoria.

Yet Obiang has been a valuable asset to Pellegrini this season as bar one awkward performance against Brighton, he has shone in his other four league outings since the manager opted to start using him.

Also aside from the fact the midfielder is working hard because he knows his manager needs him, Obiang’s desire to be fit to face Spurs also reveals the fact he knows it would be nice for fans to see their club get a win over their London rivals even if it is in the EFL Cup.
