Tony Cottee shared that he thought Manuel Pellegrini was now the right man to be in charge of West Ham as far as the immediate future was concerned.

The former Hammers forward shared that he had his doubts about the experienced manager after their first four results of the season but that he now believed Pellegrini would successfully get his ideas across at the London Stadium.

Cottee also acknowledged that he previously publicly revealed his disappointment over David Moyes not getting the manager’s job in the summer, which was previously reported by Claret & Hugh, and admitted that it was all water under the bridge now.

“I had my doubts when we lost the first four games,” Cottee cheerfully admitted on talkSPORT (Wednesday October 17, 12:12pm).

“I went on record I spoke to you guys at talkSPORT about David Moyes not getting the chance to build on what he done last year, but that’s all water under the bridge.

“Pellegrini has got to be given time, certainly been given money, been given £100million to get his ideas across and I think that’s what he will do.

“He’s a good manager, he has managed Man City etc so you’d like to think he’s the right man, so listen he’s 64 years of age so he’s not necessarily someone who will take on the club for the next 10 or 15 years.

“But no one does that now a days, but for the future I think…for the immediate future, he’s probably the right man.”

OPINION

It seems Cottee is now fully on board for the Pellegrini era at West Ham, even if he doesn’t envision it lasting over a decade due to the manager’s age. However as the retired footballer rightly pointed out, it’s rare that any manager lasts that long at a club anymore. Hopefully Pellegrini is in charge for the foreseeable future though, at least a couple of seasons, as the club needs stability. There has been lots of changes at the Hammers in recent seasons whether that be moving stadiums or whether that be personnel on and off the pitch. All this changes have caused the Hammers to not deliver the results or success they are capable of, but with some stability the good times could roll into the club once again. Pellegrini’s side may have tasted disappointment in their last outing against Brighton, as they suffered a 1-0 defeat to them, but ahead of that game there was many reasons to believe the Hammers were on the brink of clicking under their new boss.
