A number of West Ham United supporters have blasted captain Mark Noble after he was sent off in the team’s 1-1 draw with Leicester City on Saturday.

The Hammers skipper was given his marching orders in the first half by referee Michael Oliver after a dreadful challenge on Wilfred Ndidi.

Noble, on a reported £50,000-per-week at the London Stadium [Source: Spotrac], left his team with a mountain to climb in the second half and the West Ham faithful were understandably infuriated with the midfielder.

COMMENTARY

You can completely see where the West Ham supporters are coming from, here. Noble has a responsibility as captain to set an example on the pitch and he failed in his duties on Saturday. Despite his protestations, his challenge was high and late and there was no way that Oliver wasn’t going to show him a red card. He needs to think before he goes in with reckless tackles because he left his team with plenty of work to do in the second half. It was a pretty even game in the first half, which the Hammers shaded thanks to Fabian Balbuena’s goal, and it was stupid of Noble to leave his team mates in the lurch in the second period. That’s why the West Ham fans were so irate. They expect better from their captain and Noble let them down. The Hammers were unable to hold on for all three points, and to make matter worse they’ll be without Noble moving forward.
