West Ham midfielder Carlos Sanchez could be out for the rest of the season after sustaining suspected medial ligament damage, according to the Daily Mirror.

The national newspaper claim that the 32-year-old will be sidelined for a lengthy period of time after being forced to leave the field due to injury during the 8-0 win over Macclesfield Town on Wednesday.

The Daily Mirror report that Sanchez will potentially be out until the end of the season and the Hammers could dip into the January transfer market once it opens in order to find a replacement for him.

OPINION

This is a crushing blow to Sanchez as he has hardly had time to settle in at the London Stadium. While the Mirror clearly state the severity of the injury is yet to be confirmed by the Hammers, if their report is accurate than it will be a real disappointment for the player. The midfielder hobbled off against Macclesfield Town and his departure in the early stages of the match was the only the negative to be found from the Hammers’ latest outing. Sanchez has played five times in the Premier League his season and despite being used sparingly by Manuel Pellegrini, did show signs that he had a part to play in the new era at the club. The defensive midfielder’s most memorable moment this season may have been the howler he made during the 1-0 defeat to Wolves but that was a rare mistake that he would have quickly made up for in time. However it seems that if he is set to be sidelined for such a lengthy period of time, then he won’t get an opportunity to win over supporters anytime soon.
