West Ham United are to assess Carlos Sanchez today (Thursday) after the midfield enforcer limped out of their 8-0 win over Macclesfield with a knee injury, according to the Evening Standard.

The newspaper claim that the club’s medical staff will attempt to work out the severity of Sanchez’s issue after the 32-year-old left the field for Declan Rice just nine minutes into their Wednesday thrashing of the League Two side.

Sanchez joined the club this summer for a fee of £4million from Fiorentina.

OPINION

It will be interesting to see how severe Sanchez’s injury actually is for the Hammers, with the veteran midfielder having only just joined the club over the summer. While it may not seem like a huge blow for the club if Sanchez is ruled out for a while, it could be an injury which comes back to bite them. Their midfield has not been in the best form so far this season, and Sanchez has shown some glimpses of his quality in his very few minutes so far. The Colombian international has vast experience and brings some stability to that area, but it does look like they will have to be without him for a few weeks at least. He did not look too happy when he limped off against the Silkmen, and these tests today will shed light on the injury. Luckily for him, youngster Declan Rice is in imperious form, and should help the club mitigate for his absence.
