West Ham United midfielder Manuel Lanzini could return to action sooner than expected, according to club insider ExWHUemployee.

The blogger and Twitter account – who is known as a reputable source of news on the Hammers – has said on ‘The West Ham Way’ podcast [46.10] that the 5ft 6in [Transfermarkt] attacker could return as early as February 2019, even though he picked up a massive injury earlier on this summer.

He was thought to be sidelined for the whole of the campaign, but it could now be five months until he could make a return to action with the Irons.

OPINION

This surprise news will undoubtedly be a huge boost to boss Manuel Pellegrini and the rest of the team, as Lanzini was one of their most pivotal players last term. He established himself as a fan favourite with his displays, and fans can no rejoice at the fact that he could be returning much sooner than a lot of people had realised. Obviously, he still has about five months until he is expected to return now, so fans must not get too excited just yet. That is still a very long time, and the team will have to ensure that they are in a good position in the league come February when he is expected to recover. However, his return must not be rushed and Pellegrini must introduce him slowly back into the first team fold when he recovers from injury. Featuring him too quickly could cause his injury to reoccur, and that is the last thing that the Hammers would want to happen. Fans will have their fingers crossed that he does make a return in February – as it would provide a much welcomed boost to their squad depth.
