West Ham United forward Xande Silva is set to be sidelined for at least six weeks after he sustained a hamstring injury, according to Football London.

The reputable football site reports that the 21-year-old ace suffered the injury when training with the first team earlier in the week after boss Manuel Pellegrini had called him up to train at Rush Green.

The £1.8 million man will now be assessed by the medical team at Chadwell Heath and Rush Green following the injury, but he is not likely to be back in action until early November at the earliest.

Silva has already netted in three matches for the under-23 side, which includes a hattrick in his first outing for the Hammers against Tottenham and goals against Arsenal and Manchester City.

OPINION

Seeming as Silva had been drafted in by Pellegrini for training with the first team, it can be implied that he could have made a cameo against Chelsea on Sunday. He has had a blistering start to life with the under-23 team, but that has now been put on hold with this unfortunate setback, which he will be gutted about. He is a promising talent and he has the ability to rip teams to shreds with his lightning pace, so this will be a huge setback for the youngster. Hopefully he comes back a better player than he was when he joined from Vitoria de Guimaraes, and fingers crossed that he will be more determined than ever to force his way into the first team upon his return. There is no doubt that Pellegrini will integrate him sooner rather than later – he would be mad to after the young ace’s recent form – and the Chilean will be wishing that he recovers quickly.
