Manuel Pellegrini must axe West Ham midfielder Jack Wilshere to send him a wake-up call as he is currently coasting through games.

The 5ft 6in tall (Source: Transfermarkt) central midfielder has struggled to deliver the goods for the Hammers in his first three league outings for the side and doesn’t seem to be improving with each passing performance.

In fact Wilshere was arguably just as poor in his latest Hammers outing against Arsenal on Saturday as he was during his side’s Premier League opener against Liverpool.

The 26-year-old did enjoy a slightly better game against Bournemouth but still looked unable to get himself out of second gear in order to showcase the best of his talents.

Wilshere’s performance against the Gunners was his most disappointing yet as not only was he clumsy at times, he ended up being a spectator for a large portion of the second half as the match appeared to pass him by no matter what he did.

Whether the 26-year-old is still struggling to adapt to Manuel Pellegrini system or simply to life at the London Stadium is debatable but it’s clear to see that he is not playing anywhere close to his best ability.

Last season when at the Gunners Wilshere was able to take games by the scruff of the neck even when his side weren’t performing but he is yet to get anywhere close to doing that for the Hammers so far.

The 26-year-old doesn’t seem to be willing to go above and beyond for his side but rather conserve his energy to fight another day.

If Pellegrini acts by axing the midfielder for a few games then it might help spring him back to life as he will have the fear of being dropped in the back of his mind.

Therefore Pellegrini must wield the axe on Wilshere starting with Tuesday’s game against AFC Wimbledon and hope that he improves once the manager calls him back into action.
