A section of West Ham fans have been reacting on Twitter after the Hammers completed the signing of Lucas Perez from London rivals Arsenal.

Perez was revealed as the latest Hammers signing via the club’s official Twitter account and signs a three-year contract with the Irons.

The Spaniard makes the switch across London from Arsenal after a disappointing two-year stint with the Gunners, which included a season-long loan at Deportivo la Coruna last season.

The Sun revealed on their website that West Ham paid £4 million for the striker’s services, a considerable decline in the sum following his move to Arsenal, with the Gunners paying £17 million in 2016.

Following the transfer, some West Ham fans have been reacting to the news , with one calling Perez a ‘great signing’ while another cannot be ‘more excited for the season’.

OPINION

Lucas Perez had a miserable period at Arsenal and returned to former club Deportivo on loan last season as the forward was never going to challenge against the talented likes of Alexandre Lacazette or Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for a regular place in the starting line-up. A move for West Ham is ideal for both himself and the club, who are looking for a striker to replace the injured Andy Carroll. Perez will be looking to rediscover the form which made the Gunners pay a hefty price tag to bring him to North London. To add to Lucas’ troublesome season at Arsenal, injuries did force him to miss too many matches in his debut season with the club and went through a stop-start campaign with the inability to get off the mark and score goals consistently. Hopefully, this is an issue that does not crop up for his new team, who are already facing attacking issues with a number of players sidelined for the unforeseeable future.
