Jamie Redknapp shared that celebrity West Ham fan James Cordon is trying to take credit for Jack Wilshere signing for the club.

The Sky Sports pundit stated that the Hammers’ summer recruit was on A League Of Their Own, which features himself and Cordon, a few weeks ago and that Cordon was now trying to take some credit for Wilshere arriving at the London Stadium this summer.

Redknapp then proceeded to reveal what he believed Wilshere’s weaknesses were and pointed to his fitness issues as well as his lack of goals and assists in his career so far.

“James Corden is trying to claim the credit for Jack going to West Ham after he came on A League Of Their Own a few weeks ago!” wrote Redknapp for the Daily Mail.

“This is a perfect move for him. He is the sort of player who will take the game by the scruff of the neck and conjure moments of magic. The West Ham fans should really take to him.

“Of course there will be question marks over his fitness and I have said for a long time that he needs to add more goals and assists to his game.

“But if he can stay injury free he has a great platform to get back into the England squad. For me this is the most interesting signing of the summer and I’m intrigued to see how he does.”

Wilshere joined the Hammers in July, as confirmed by the club’s website, and signed a three-year contract with Manuel Pellegrini’s side.

OPINION

It seems that the upcoming episode of the sports-themed gameshow A League Of Their Own with Wilshere will likely show Cordon suggesting that he joins the Hammers. While the celebrity may have played no part in the central midfielder joining Pellegrini’s side this summer, it does show that at least one Hammers fan is keen to see him at the club. However it’s likely that Cordon wasn’t alone in urging his side to snap up Wilshere following his Arsenal contract expiring in the summer as he was one of the most high-profile free agents available. While Redknapp refers to the 26-year-old’s well-documented injury record, it seems the pundit is also looking for the midfielder to improve his track record in front of goal. In his career so far Wilshere has assisted 20 goals, while assisting eight in the 166 Premier League appearances he has made. These numbers are decent when you consider that at times he played very deep in Arsenal’s midfield but it is time he started using his fantastic vision and passing ability to create more clear-cut chances for his teammates.
