West Ham defender Reece Oxford looks set to head back to Germany before the end of the month, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster’s live transfer blog (Thursday, 14:01) states that the centre-back, whose current Hammers deal earns him £20,000-a-week (Source: Spotrac), is likely to secure a move to Germany as Hannover, RB Leipzig and Frankfurt are all keen on signing him.

Sky Sports report that the Hammers are willing to sell Oxford for a fee in the region of £10million but do not mention whether his likely move abroad would be a temporary or permanent one.

OPINION

It seems Oxford won’t be leaving by 5pm on Thursday when the transfer window for English clubs slams shut but he will be departing the London Stadium soon. It’s no real shock that the enforcer is due to be packing his bags as his exit has been on the cards for a while. The 19-year-old looked liked a promising talent when he first burst on to the senior scene with the Hammers but it doesn’t seem like his long-term future is set to be in London. Oxford had two separate loan spells at Borussia Monchengladbach last season and it seems that has led to him gaining admirers in Germany. The enforcer may have only made eight appearances for the German giants but clearly it was enough for him to impress several high profile clubs. While it is not known whether Hannover, RB Leipzig or Frankfurt are looking to secure Oxford’s long-term future or borrow him, the fact remains that it’s unlikely he will be seen working under Manuel Pellegrini in his 2018/19 campaign.
