West Ham’s attempts to sign Inter Milan midfielder Joao Mario this summer do not look like being successful, according to a trusted club insider.

ExWHUemployee, who regularly delivers reliable Hammers information via their Twitter account, shared that it was now unlikely that the 25-year-old playmaker would join the club.

The insider previously shared in July that the Hammers were trying to negotiating a loan deal for Mario in order to welcome him back to the club after he spent the second half of the 2017/18 campaign at the London Stadium.

OPINION

It’s disappointing that Mario seems unlikely to be wearing a Hammers jersey next season as he looked like a creative threat during his temporary spell with the club. Given that the Hammers won’t be getting him then hopefully Mario isn’t seen in the Premier League next season. The Sun previously reported that Leicester City and Everton were keen on recruiting the attack-minded midfielder with Inter Milan having slapped a £25million price tag on his head, so there’s a possibility that one of those sides might win his services. The 25-year-old is capable of being a success in England’s top-flight and would no doubt hit the ground running in the Premier League in 2018/19 if given the chance as he looked like he had successfully adapted his game to the division when at the Hammers. While Manuel Pellegrini has welcomed many exciting talents to the club this summer, it would have been the cherry on the cake if Mario had been recruited.
