West Ham midfielder Josh Cullen is expected to complete a loan move to Charlton this week, according to a club insider.

ExWHUemployee, who provides accurate information on the Hammers, stated via Twitter that the 22-year-old central midfielder should be joining the League One side on loan until January shortly.

Cullen made the Hammers’ squad for their EFL Cup clash with AFC Wimbledon on Tuesday but was an unused substitute.

OPINION

It’s not exactly disappointing that Cullen is going out on loan as it could be smart move for him as he needs to play regular football however a move to the Championship would have been more promising. Claret & Hugh previously reported that the 22-year-old had a number of Championship clubs vying to borrow his services so it’s odd that he’s about to move to Charlton who play their football in League One. However the midfielder is no doubt set to get lots playing time at The Addicks at least and that should aid his progress in some way. The 22-year-old has plenty of experience of playing in England’s third-tier after previously having a loan spell at Bradford City where he regularly featured for them. With Cullen now looking likely to depart than it is also a little disheartening that he was able to get off the bench against the Wombles on Tuesday as it would have been nice for fans to get a glimpse of talent ahead of him leaving on loan.
