West Ham United have only recieved a loan offer for their centre-back Reece Oxford, according to club insider ExWHUemployee.

The insider – who is a reliable source of information on the Hammers – has revealed via a Twitter exchange that no permanent offers have been made for the 6″3 [Transfermarkt] giant, and that talks have only consisted of an interest to take the 19-year-old on loan.

The youngster spent the second half of last season on loan at Bundesliga outfit Borussia Monchengladbach, where he made seven appearances in the latter part of the 2017/2018 campaign.

He only made one Premier League appearance for the Irons before being farmed out to Germany in January.

OPINION

The fact that talks are ongoing for Oxford’s exit but with only a view to loan will be incredibly frustrating for West Ham. They have already recruited Issa Diop and Fabian Balbuena for the centre-back role and clearly have no need to keep the youngster on the books, as he would only be a fringe player at most. They obviously want to offload him on a permanent basis, but that does not look like it will happen before the conclusion of the transfer window tomorrow. Boss Manuel Pellegrini may have to settle for a loan move for Oxford for the time being, as it will mean he will not have to have him on the books for the season. West Ham will undoubtedly want to cash in on the youth prospect who has been with the club since 2011, but it remains to be seen where his potential next destination will be and whether it would be permanent or not.
