West Ham United are in talks with Middlesbrough over a last-minute loan exit for striker Jordan Hugill, according to Sky Sports News.

The broadcaster posted on Twitter on Wednesday morning that the two clubs were attempting to negotiate a deal which would take the 26-year-old back to his hometown club temporarily.

OPINION

An exit was always on the cards for Hugill this summer despite the fact that he only joined the club in the January transfer window. The logic behind that move will never be truly know, but reports this summer have suggested that the Hammers signed Hugill in case of relegation, which has to be the most bizarre reason to sign a player if true. Anyhow, it must have been such a disappointing six months or so for Hugill, who would have been raring to go after seemingly being handed a shot in the Premier League. Unfortunately it has not worked out at all, and a move to hometown club Middlesbrough is one that makes sense for all parties involved. Hugill knows the Championship very well after his spell at Preston North End, and the striker will likely get straight back in the goals in the north-east, leading to a permanent exit from the club.
