West Ham United are in talks to seal a last-minute swoop for Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes before Thursday’s transfer deadline, according to The Times.

The newspaper reports on their website that the Hammers are set to continue to splash the cash this summer by concentrating their efforts into a deal for the 6″2 (source: Transfermarkt) pass master in time for the conclusion of the window.

Their spending spree this summer has included swoops for Felipe Anderson, Jack Wilshere, Andriy Yarmolenko and Issa Diop – but it does not look to stop there as the Irons plan to bring in another name.

OPINION

West Ham are set to take their number of signings into the double figures if they manage to secure this capture, and with the amount of players they have brought in, it will be hard to tell where they will all fit into the team. They would have gained themselves another quality players in the shape of Gomes, but time is running out to complete the deal – and they will need to act fast. New arrivals need time to gel with one another, and if they are set to negotiate a last minute swoop like this one, then they run the risk of players not performing as well as they should be. Gomes need time to get used to the team, and with the start of the season beginning later this week, he will not get much of an opportunity to do that. That is one of the disadvantages of signing a player so late on in the window – but West Ham fans will have their fingers crossed that everything will go according to plan.
