West Ham United are reportedly close to signing Fiorentina midfielder Carlos Sanchez, and many fans have taken to Twitter to blast the club for turning to the 32-year-old.
As reported by club insider ExWHUemployee, the Hammers are expected to complete a deal for Sanchez before Thursday’s transfer deadline, alongside a move for Arsenal striker Lucas Perez.
Many fans have now taken to Twitter to react angrily to the imminent signing of Sanchez, who has previously played in the Premier League with Aston Villa.
Forever West Ham have rounded up some of the best tweets:
Just when we looked like breaking out of the banter era we have been linked with signing the worst professional footballer I’ve ever seen, Carlos Sanchez, if he we were 1 short on a Monday night I’d still ignore his text #Whufc

I'd rather us take a punt on a younger player from anywhere around the world than Sanchez. What a poor end to a solid window #WHUFC

West Ham losing obiang and replacing him with Carlos Sanchez will undo a lot of good work in the window! #WHUFC

To be fair though Carlos Sanchez is the first typical West Ham signing we’ll have made all summer… #COYI #WHUFC

I'm really not that enthusiastic about us signing Carlos Sanchez. Is a poor player for me. However. If he's the difference between signing a CDM and not signing a CDM I'll take him on a one year contract. We need another CDM that much I do know.

OPINION
These West Ham fans are not happy about the prospect of signing Sanchez, and it is easy to see why. The Colombia international did not exactly impress during his time at Villa, and his performances for Colombia at the World Cup left a lot to be desired. The fact that Sanchez is already 32 years old does not help his cause, but his role in the team is clear. He is merely there to provide cover in midfield, and will likely not feature heavily for the Hammers this coming season. Also, Manuel Pellegrini’s judgement so far this window has been impeccable, and fans should back Sanchez to perform.
