West Ham are close to agreeing a deal for Benfica midfielder Joao Felix, according to Sky Sports.

The sports broadcaster reports on their live blog [August 5th 10.49am] that all parties are willing to finalise a deal for the attacking flyer, with talks ongoing about his possible move to the London Stadium.

The 5ft 10in tall (source: Transfermarkt) youngster has played in Portugal all his life and has represented his country from under-18 to under-21 level, where he has has earned five caps in total.

The 18-year-old netted five goals and registered five assists in his 2017/2018 campaign.

OPINION

West Ham look poised to take their number of signings to double figures if they complete a deal for Joao Felix. It will remain to be seen where he will fit into the new look team, and he will likely find himself on the bench regularly or playing for the under-23 side. Nevertheless, he seems like a promising talent and he looks poised to be a long-term investment by boss Manuel Pellegrini, rather than someone who will slot into the first team straight away. He was only promoted to Benfica’s senior squad this summer, so that indicates his lack of experience playing for a senior team. The youngster has undoubtedly impressed West Ham already given that they are after him, and they have obviously spotted some potential ready to be unleashed once he has developed his talent further. The Hammers are potentially spending wisely here – and they will be hoping to reap the rewards in the near future.
