A section of West Ham fans have taken to Twitter to express their initial delight that the club are pursuing Arsenal striker Lucas Perez.
Italian journalist Nicolo Schira claimed on his personal Twitter account that the top-six frontman is due to have talks with the Hammers on Monday (6 August) to finalise a move from the Gunners.

He says that the forward is edging ever closer to a move to the London Stadium, which has delighted a section of the Irons’ faithful, who seem to approve the club’s hunt for his signature. These comments include “great option to have” and “would be unreal.”

We are, and I’ve tweeted about that this morning. Perez I think would be a great option to have, as we plan to play 2 strikers upfront so we need a good striker to come off the bench. #WHUFC #COYI https://t.co/cQgNGRcpNi

Moukoudi, Bernard, Perez. Would like Maia on loan but that might be greedy

OPINION
The majority of fans seem to think that the potential arrival of Lucas Perez from Arsenal would result in him being a back-up striker to the likes of Javier Hernandez and Marko Arnautovic. He may not have had the most convincing goal tally at La Liga side Deportivo La Coruna whilst on loan there last season, but that may be down to the fact that his Gunners spell killed his confidence as he wasn’t given enough opportunities to show what he can do. Potentially joining West Ham may be the best move for his career, and he may even be used in the first team more regularly than what some fans think – even the one who does not rate him highly in the slightest.
