West Ham are poised to complete the signing of Vitoria Guimaraes forward Xande Silva on Wednesday, according to O Jogo.

The Portuguese outlet report that the 21-year-old winger is en route to London for a medical, and is set to put pen to paper on a three-year deal until 2021.

O Jogo claim that a £1.3million fee has been agreed for the Portugal youth international, with the two sides also inserting a 10% sell-on clause into the deal.

OPINION

This looks to be a shrewd move from West Ham, who will be bringing in a highly-rated young forward for just £1.3million, which is peanuts in today’s market. Despite the club’s search for another forward to boost the squad, it is expected that the 21-year-old Portuguese will initially begin life in England playing for the Hammers Under-23 side before hopefully graduating to the first team in the coming months. Silva will need to get acquainted with life in London and the pace of English football before expectations can be placed on him to make an impact, and that could take up to a year. The club may also try to use this move to convince fellow Portugal youth international Domingos Quina to remain at the club, with the 18-year-old being lined up by several of Europe’s top clubs. Expect this one to go through by tomorrow at the latest amid these latest reports, with a medical now set to take place at some point today (Wednesday).
