The potential arrival of midfielder Carlos Sanchez at West Ham United is expected to be a loan rather than a permanent move, according to Football London.

The website reports that the Fiorentina enforcer is not expected to move to the London Stadium on a permanent basis, but is expected to spend the season on a temporary deal with the Hammers instead.

The Colombia international – who featured at this summer’s World Cup – could become the Irons’ tenth signing of this transfer window as they aim to wrap up a deal for striker Lucas Perez from Arsenal.

However, he is not expected to be a regular first team starter should a move go through.

OPINION

The news that Carlos Sanchez is potentially going to arrive on loan instead of on a permanent basis is not surprising. He is not guaranteed to be a regular first team starter upon his possible arrival, and will have to challenge the likes of Declan Rice and Pedro Obiang for the defensive midfield spot in the starting line-up. This means he is likely to be a squad member rather than a regular around the first team, meaning that potentially having him on loan is a wise move by West Ham. They would not want to commit to a permanent deal with a player who is 31-years-old, as he is not going to stick around very long. It would be a waste of money bring him in permanently, especially if he will not be getting game time every week. A loan move is the best thing he could do, particularly if he gets fed up of potentially not being used that often.
