West Ham United defender Reece Oxford is a transfer target for Premier League rivals Everton, according to Sky Sports News (live transfer blog, 12.36pm).

The broadcaster states that Marco Silva’s side are weighing up a £3million move for the 19-year-old, as they look to replace Ashley Williams who moved to Stoke on loan on Thursday.

Oxford, who stands 6ft 3,in had two temporary spells with Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach last season, where he made eight appearances in all competitions.

Earlier this summer it was reported that West Ham were willing to listen to offers for the teenager, but were hoping to sell for around £10million, significantly more than Everton’s rumoured bid.

OPINION

It all seems to have unravelled rather quickly for Oxford at West Ham, with the player having started off his Hammers career so brightly. It looks as if he will be leaving the London Stadium one way or the other this transfer window, with new manager Manuel Pellegrini clearly not keen on the 19-year-old. Oxford is said to have enjoyed his time in Germany last season, so it’s rather surprising not to see him linked with a permanent move to Monchengladbach. Everton are in need of a new centre back, having allowed Williams to leave and seemingly lost out on Yerry Mina to Manchester United, so their move for Oxford makes sense. £3million appears to be markedly less than West Ham were hoping to accrue for Oxford, and the Toffees will likely have to up their bid. If the Hammers can get anywhere near their £10million valuation, then it’s a good bit of business for a player that the club have seemingly soured on.
