West Ham United boss Manuel Pellegrini has said that he has no need to sign another centre-back in this transfer window, according to Claret and Hugh.

The website – who is renound for being a club insider on the Hammers, providing exclusive news and updates – has reported that the Irons’ boss is happy with his current crop of centre-backs that include Issa Diop, Angelo Ogbonna, Fabian Balbuena and Declan Rice.

The Chilean reportedly has no need for another central defender and is not intent on swooping for another one in this window, but remains in the market for a back-up striker to provide cover to Javier Hernandez and Marko Arnautovic.

OPINION

The news that boss Manuel Pellegrini is not in the market for another centre-back really does not come as a surprise. His two new additions are more than capable of competing against one another, and the need for another player in this position is not paramount for the Hammers. If they signed another centre-back, then the position would become incredibly overcrowded, and at least one player would be relegated to the bench for the majority of matches. That prospect would not be fair on the individual, and Pellegrini has made the right decision not to add another one to their ranks. Issa Diop and Fabian Balbuena are both top-class centre-backs in their own rights, and adding another one would only overshadow them. It remains to be seen whether West Ham will complete any more deals before the window shuts, but one thing is for sure – we will not be seeing another central defender there any time soon.
