West Ham have tabled a £17.5million offer for Borussia Dortmund winger Andriy Yarmolenko, according to the Daily Mail.

The national newspaper claim that the Hammers launched their eight-figure offer for the 6ft 2in winger (Transfermarkt) as they’re looking at alternatives options for Felipe Anderson after talks with Lazio hit a snag.

The Daily Mail claim that talks regarding signing the Italian giant’s 25-year-old right-sided flyer have stalled and that the Hammers are searching for other players to meet their need.

OPINION

Anderson would be a more exciting signing than Yarmolenko but it seems Lazio are proving difficult to seal a deal with. This doesn’t seem to be the case with Borussia Dortmund regarding the sale of Yarmolenko as according to the Mail the German club are open to a deal. While the Hammers £17.5million bid is described as their opening bid it could be enough to get a deal wrapped up for his services quickly. Yarmolenko may have only arrived at Borussia Dortmund in 2017 but after scoring only three goals in 18 leagues games for the club, it’s clear why they’re willing to part company with him. The winger isn’t the pacey of options for Manuel Pellegrini to sign but he may fare better bursting down the Hammers right-flank then he currently is in Germany. While it’s good to see the Hammers getting over their Anderson disappointment quickly in order to successfully welcome a new recruit to flourish on the right-side of their team, they shouldn’t spend over £20million trying to sign Yarmolenko.
