West Ham are attempting to sign midfielder Joao Mario on loan from Inter Milan, according to a trusted club insider.

ExWHUemployee who regularly provides reliable Hammers information via Twitter stated that the club were still trying to negotiate a loan deal to secure the services of the 25-year-old playmaker.

It’s unclear whether Manuel Pellegrini’s side will be successful with their attempt as the insider’s tweet suggests that it’s not known whether a loan deal is possible for Mario.

OPINION

The Hammers have been linked with Mario throughout this window as he impressed during his temporary spell at the club last season. The attacking midfielder, who has a £26million price tag on his head (Source: London Evening Standard), would be a fabulous signing for Manuel Pellegrini to make. With Manuel Lanzini out injured for the foreseeable future then securing the services of Mario would help cover his loss. After settling into life at the London Stadium last season when on loan, Mario showcased his creative vision and sublime passing ability. Before departing the club once the season was over, the midfielder scored two goals, while assisting one in his 14 outings, which helped steer David Moyes’ side clear of the relegation zone. If Mario is brought in on a temporary basis once again then the club should try to secure his services permanently next summer. It’s understandable that after spending big money on recruiting so many new faces this summer that the club are only trying to get Mario in on loan at this point, as it’s the cheaper route to take.
