West Ham are in the race to sign Benfica attacker Haris Seferovic, according to Record.

The Portuguese newspaper state that the Hammers alongside Brighton and Wolfsburg are interested in the 26-year-old forward who is set to leave Benfica after dropping down the pecking order.

Record report that despite Seferovic having a £53.1million release clause in his contract, the Portuguese giants are hoping to sell their player for a fee in the region of £8.9million.

OPINION

The Hammers would be crazy to try and win Seferovic ‘s services as the 26-year-old had a disappointing 2017/18 campaign. The forward may have featured at the World Cup with Switzerland, he made three appearances in total, but he wouldn’t improve Manuel Pellegrini’s squad. Seferovic scored only seven goals in 29 appearances for Benfica in his 2017/18 campaign and it’s no surprise they’d be willing to get him off their books. The forward only arrived at the club in July 2017 and it’s clear that the Portuguese giants would rather a more lethal finisher to lead their front line. The only thing the 26-year-old has going for him at this point is that he’s capable of playing as a left-winger, centre-forward as well as a secondary striker so would give a manager options about how to use him. Pellegrini isn’t desperately in need of signing new attackers in this window let alone ones who are as average as Seferovic. Hopefully this report is wide of the mark or if it is true then hopefully the Seagulls win the race for his services.
