West Ham must abort their pursuit of Genoa midfielder Diego Laxalt as they simply don’t need him at the club at this time.

According to Tuttomercatoweb the Hammers had returned for the 25-year-old left-footed midfielder and that the Premier League club had been told he would cost them £17.7million (20million euros) if they wanted to purchase him.

Given that £17.7million is not exactly a small amount to pay for a player and the fact the Hammers have already spent over £100million on recruiting new players this summer, as reported by the Express, the club shouldn’t recruit Laxalt anytime soon.

The 25-year-old recently caught several people’s attention as he made four appearances for Uruguay at the World Cup in Russia and submitted some decent displays in his outings.

Yet despite his recent performances given that Laxalt is only known to be capable of playing as a left winger, left-back or left-sided midfielder it’s hard to see why the Hammers need to recruit him anytime soon.

New recruit Andriy Yarmolenko is capable of flourishing on the left-wing at the club and Aaron Cresswell as well as Arthur Masuaku are capable of playing at left-back or on the left-side of midfield is necessary.

On top of those three players Manuel Pellegrini could also opt to utilise Michail Antonio if he stays at the club as the 28-year-old has also previously played on the left-side of midfield for the Hammers.

The experienced manager if really stretched, if some how all four of those players find themselves ruled out, there is no doubt a talented youth prospect lurking in the club’s academy ready to fill in on a temporary basis.

So while Laxalt may have impressed at the World Cup and had a solid campaign for Genoa last season, making 34 appearances them, he is not a clear upgrade on the current options available to Pellegrini.

Therefore the Hammers must abort their pursuit of the left-footed midfielder who appeared at the World Cup especially as it has now been reported that he will cost £17.7million.
