Manuel Pellegrini has finalised his plans for West Ham’s defence next season and has decided that Aaron Cresswell has big part to play next season, according to Claret & Hugh.

The trusted Hammers news site report that the 28-year-old is set to be the number one choice when it comes to the left-sided of the club’s defence.

Claret & Hugh report that fellow left-back Arthur Masuaku’s future at the London Stadium is also secure as Pellegrini has been pleased with what he has seen of the 24-year-old in pre-season so far.

OPINION

It seems Cresswell doesn’t have to sweat over his future at the Hammers as Claret & Hugh’s report should end all speculation that he is even anywhere near the exit door. The left-back, whose current deal sees him earn £50,000-a-week (Source: Spotrac) submitted a range of performances during the 39 outings he made across all competitions last season. Cresswell looked like a defensive liability at times with his April outing against Chelsea and his boxing day display against Bournemouth being particularly hard to watch. However the 28-year-old then showed the positive side of his game at times and ending up registering seven assists in the Premier League when it was all said and done. No other defender in England’s top-flight created more goals than Cresswell and it’s easy to see that an attack-minded manager like Pellegrini will love having a defender capable of aiding his side’s attackers. Hopefully the 28-year-old ends up justifying Pellegrini’s clear belief in him as soon as the new season gets underway.
