Manuel Pellegrini has told West Ham goalkeeper Adrian to fight for his place at the club, according to Claret & Hugh.

The reliable dedicated Hammers news site claim that the experienced manager expects the 6ft 2in tall Spanish shot-stopper (Transfermarkt) to compete for the No.1 jersey at the club with Lukasz Fabianski.

Claret & Hugh report that Pellegrini has assured Adrian that he has no automatic choice when comes to his first-choice keeper for next season and he will pick who to play based on form.

It was previously stated in a Claret & Hugh‘s report in June that Adrian was one of the players that the club were likely to listen to offers for this summer.

OPINION

It seems after looking like being on the chopping block at the Hammers, Adrian has an opportunity to regular feature for the Premier League side next season. Claret & Hugh report that Pellegrini will disregard the fact that the club have paid over £7million to sign Fabianski this summer from Swansea City and will simply only opt for him to be his number one if his justifies his price tag. This a fantastic stance for the experienced boss to take as every player should be kept on their toes when it comes to having a place in the starting line-up. If a player knows that they have to deliver the goods in order to keep regularly playing then it will only lead to them submitting their best performances ever week to ensure their place is safe. With Fabianksi still on his holidays following the World Cup until next Monday, Adrian needs to grab his opportunity to impress in the friendly against Preston North End in order to stake a claim for a first-team spot ahead of next season.
