West Ham striker Javier Hernandez is due back at Rush Green tomorrow after his World Cup exploits, according to a club Insider.

The 30-year-old striker, who arrived from Bayer Leverkusen for £16million last summer, didn’t enjoy last season.

He only started 16 games in the Premier League, making 28 league appearances in total, and scoring eight goals.

However, ExWHUemployee, a solid source of West Ham news, revealed that Manuel Pellegrini wants to keep him and “play him correctly”.

He added that the striker hasn’t made his mind up on whether he wants to stay or not but has been impressed with Pellegrini and the ambition shown by the West Ham board over the summer.

OPINION

Hernandez was woefully misused last season and proved again at the World Cup that he’s a striker who can easily compete and score in the Premier League. Pellegrini knows this and wants to keep him and it sounds like Hernandez is positive about staying under the new regime. The thought of Hernandez playing with all the new West Ham signings is enough to get any West Ham fan excited and we hope he does stay and prove what he can do at the London Stadium next season. 39 goals in 76 games for Bayer Leverkusen and 59 in 158 games for Man United show that West Ham are sitting on a goldmine of goals if they can play Hernandez properly. Hooking up with new signing Andriy Yarmolenko must be a huge draw for the 30-year-old, who still has two years left on his West Ham deal. However, West Ham fans might not be too pleased to hear that he’s still making his mind up about whether he wants to stay or not.
