West Ham striker Jordan Hugill could be heading for the exit as he is wanted by Aston Villa on loan for next season, according to the Sun.

Boss Steve Bruce is said to have approached the Hammers yesterday in an attempt to land the six foot (source: Transfermarkt) frontman on loan, who has also attracted Villa’s Championship rivals QPR and Leeds.

Bruce reportedly plans to beat the second tier duo to sign the Irons’ forward on a temporary basis, who netted ten goals in all competitions in the 2017/2018 campaign, as well as laying on two assists since joining from Preston North End in January.

The 26-year-old still has four years left to run on his current contract at the London Stadium.

OPINION

A move for Jordan Hugill may just be the best option for his career right now. He did not make a single appearance in the Premier League last season, making only two in the League Cup. This situation is not ideal for the striker, who undoubtedly wants to be playing regular football next term. He is not likely to get that at West Ham, as boss Manuel Pellegrini already has Marko Arnautovic and Javier Hernandez to call upon, and he may sign another forward by the end of the window, limiting his chances even further. At Aston Villa, his senior appearances will be more frequent as Bruce does not have an array of players to call upon, and he will more likely thrive in the Championship environment he is used to. Despite only joining in January, West Ham is not the club for him and he should seriously consider any offers that come his way, before the window slams shut.
