West Ham are in talks with Swansea City to sign their centre-back Alfie Mawson, according to Sky Sports.

The sports broadcaster’s live blog [Friday 27 July, 10.51pm] reports that the Hammers are in talks to sign the 6″2 (source: Transfermarkt) sought-after figure, but it has emerged that Premier League duo Burnley and Fulham are also in talks over potentially signing Mawson.

The Irons also had a number of bids rejected by the Swans earlier this summer as they made offers for both Mawson and goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski, who they ended up signing in June. Swansea have stated that they want more than £20 million for their prized defender.

OPINION

The transfer saga involving West Ham and Alfie Mawson seems to be going on and on, and it does not look like it will be stopping any time soon. The Hammers obviously think it is worth a shot to sign Mawson once again, but it will be seen this time whether that will actually happen with two other clubs competing as well. Fulham are looking to bolster their squad ahead of their return to the Premier League, so they will be extra keen to bring him to Craven Cottage. However, it can be questioned why the Irons are in the market for yet another centre-back. They have now signed Issa Diop, who should be guaranteed a spot in the first team, as well as Fabian Balbuena – so it would mean that one of them may have to play second fiddle if Mawson made the move to East London from South Wales.
