West Ham are resisting offers from Serie A club Sampdoria for their midfielder Pedro Obiang, according to Claret and Hugh.

The club insider – who are a reliable source of information regarding the club – have reported that the Hammers are reluctant to sell the Spanish enforcer to the Italians, despite a report from Sky Sports yesterday (27 July) saying that a £10 million deal was close to being done.

The Irons are not willing to offload the 26-year-old, and they have no intentions to sell him for a price anywhere near £10 million – meaning that the Italian outfit will have to increase their offer if they are serious about a reunion with the central midfielder.

OPINION

In light of this new information from one of the club’s insiders, it is hard to tell whether Obiang will exit the London Stadium any time soon. Even if Sampdoria do make an increased bid, the report states that the 6ft 1in tall player (Transfermarket) is content with what he is witnessing in East London under new boss Manuel Pellegrini, and would be more than willing to remain a part of his plans at the club. This news will obviously come as a bitter blow to Sampdoria, who were hoping that a reunion with Obiang was imminent, and it will remain to be seen whether they are keen to increase on their previous offer. It is not surprising that he wants to stay at the club, especially with the direction they could be heading in as a result of their summer of spending. Sampdoria may come back with more cash, but it looks like they could be waiting a lot longer than they expected to land Obiang – if he decides he wants to leave.
