West Ham have enquired about signing Chelsea midfielder Danny Drinkwater but face competition from other clubs, according to club insider ExWHUemployee.

The insider Twitter account – who is a reliable source of exclusive news on West Ham – has revealed on their personal Twitter account that the Hammers are one step closer in their pursuit of the Blues’ outcast by lodging an enquiry about a move.

However, the insider states that the Irons have wanted the 28-year-old for a while, but face competition from other clubs for his signature.

The Blues signed Drinkwater last summer from former Premier League winners Leicester City.

OPINION

West Ham are certainly making a splash in the transfer market at the moment. They are obviously not content with the amount of signings that they have already made, and now want to add Drinkwater to their ever-growing ranks. The level of top-flight experience that they will have in their squad if they do complete the signing of the former England international will be incredibly high – not many teams can say that they have a vastly experienced central midfield duo like Drinkwater and Jack Wilshere. Enquiring about a transfer for the Chelsea player ensures that they are one step closer to achieving that combination in the middle of the park, and would not be surprising to see how fast the potential transfer could develop. It is a shame that Drinkwater has been subjected to the treatment that has at Stamford Bridge, but what will be their loss will potentially be West Ham’s gain.
